Woods Fire on Bancroft Road Date: January 5, 2009 On January 5th 2009 at 1700 hours, Chester County Fireboard dispatched the Avondale Fire Company to a brush fire on Bancroft Road in the area of Crestview Drive. Deputy 23 (Cole Jr.) arrived on scene at 1704 hours with a large amount of fire climbing the hill, and spreading rapidly into the trees. Engine 23-3 (Hoseman Reed) arrived at 1711 hours pulling the 1 ¾” hand lines across a stream and up the hill for fire suppression. Engine 23-2 (Asst. Chief Decker) arrived shortly after and supplied water to Engine 23-3 along with pulling a booster line and attacking the fire from the bottom of the hill. Deputy 23 established “Bancroft Road Command” while Asst. 23 handled “Operations”. The fire was knocked down and placed under control at 1721 hours. After some minor overhaul of the scene, the Avondale units cleared at 1750 hours.
