On July 14th, 2012 at 06:22 hours Station 23 along with NCC Station 19 (Hockessin) were dispatched for a reported house fire in the area on Penn Green Road and Route 41. Moments later, Engine 23-2 with a crew of 5, Chief 23 and Deputy 23 went responding. Prior to our arrival fireboard stated that NGPD is on scene with smoke coming from the roof and with a confirmed address of 8844 Gap Newport Pike. Deputy 23 arrived and instructed the engine crew to stretch a 1-3/4”-hand line to the front door, and set up ladders to the roof. Chief 23 arrived on scene moments after the engine arrival and assumed Command 23 and Deputy 23 had operations. After further investigation, crews found fire in the area of the chimney and checked for extension in the walls and roof. At 06:36 hours NCC Tower 19 arrived on scene and assisted with checking for extension, at that time the working fire dispatch went out, which added station 24 (Kennett) and stations 12 and 22 (West Grove). After crews determined that the fire was contained to the chimney area, the incident was placed under control with all units working. After some minor overhaul and cleanup all crews were released at 07:23 hrs.
Thanks to Engine 12 for standing by in our station during this incident!
